Meredith Gaston
Albert Camus said that artists simply reproduce the first few images that touched them as children or that first accessed their hearts. Sydney / Berlin artist Meredith Gaston, knows that this is true for her. She is still enchanted by birds up in trees, people interacting with animals, houses tucked up on hillsides and, of course, faces and the way they communicate with other faces. Images like this, which recur in Meredith's paintings and drawings, are about childhood happiness and the celebration of the magic of the everyday. Her simple forms, bold colour and naïve lines are instantly enchanting and evocative. Indeed, it is difficult to imagine a more enriching imaginary landscape for a young mind.
Meredith has received international recognition for her work. Her work has been exhibited in major Australian galleries and is commissioned worldwide. Her Kindergallery collection include her work with acrylic on canvas / linen, watercolour drawings and paintings, and her just released first solo book “Tucked In” (Penguin, 2011)
